Gary Webb, reporter who linked CIA to drug trafficking in L.A.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Gary Webb, a Pulitzer Prize-winninginvestigative reporter who wrote a controversial series of storieslinking the CIA to crack cocaine trafficking in Los Angeles, has diedat age 49.

Mr. Webb was found Friday morning at his home in SacramentoCounty, dead of an apparent suicide. Moving-company workers calledauthorities after discovering a note posted on his front door thatread, "Please do not enter. Call 911 and ask for an ambulance."

Mr. Webb died of a gunshot wound to the head, according to theSacramento County coroner's office.
