We fought allthe way from the starting point at Amcorp Mall Petaling Jaya to thecity and at one point, one of us had to backtrack on foot because wemissed a clue," said Mohd Azar Abu Bakar.But all the hard work paid off when Mohd Azar and two othermembers of his team - Mohd Yusof Abdullah and Nor Azri Ali - wonsecond prize at the Malay Mail Charity Treasure Hunt yesterday.First-timers, Mohd Azar and Nor Azri, had Mohd Yusof, who hadtaken part in similar hunts before, brought along two dictionariestohelp them solve the riddles."We got very lucky with the first question. A man with aneye-patch just happened to pass by when we reached the firstdestination. So we decided it must be the Eye Hospital," he said.For second place, the trio won RM500, a Nestle hamper, Colemanproducts, Caltex products, Isotonic drinks and hotel vouchers."Not too bad for first timers. We will definitely take part inthe next treasure hunt," he said.The charity hunt was organised by The Paper That Cares to raisefunds for the MAA-Medicare Kidney Charity Fund. The participants coveredabout 100km and had to solve the riddles in six hours.Besides 40 riddles, the participants were also given tulips tohelp them find clues around Petaling Jaya, Damansara, Selayang,Ampang and Kuala Lumpur that led them to the finish line at MandarinHotel at the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC).Treasure hunt veterans - K.K. Chai, Margaret Chai, F.Y. Lim andS.F. Loh - won two air tickets and accommodation to the 13th AsianGames in Bangkok as first prize."The questions given were really tough but they had broadened ourgeneral knowledge," said Loh.All four team members love treasure hunts as they provide theopportunity to travel and go to places they have not been to.The team also received RM1,000 cash, a Nestle hamper, Caltexproducts, Coleman products and Kentucky Fried Chicken vouchers amongothers.They received their prizes from the MAA-Medicare Kidney CharityFund board of trustees chairman, Tunku Abdullah Tunku Abdul Rahman.The Malay Mail editor Fauzi Omar said as the paper that cares, TheMalay Mail will continue its tradition of organising charity eventsand promoting a caring society."Be it public service, government bureaucracies, consumers withsimple questions or clogged drains... we will try our best to solvethem simply because we do care," he said.A.
